Circa 1880. Lovely 19th century rosewood ladies writing bureau. The serpentine top with inlaid border stringing and pierced brass gallery. The bureau having a painted playful scene to its fall front. The fitted interior has three drawers and a slide leaf cubby. Standing on slender Louis XV legs with decorative ormolu mounts to knees and feet. A lovely piece that would suit a contemporary or period interior. Along with a Special Provenance of belonging to Margaret Porter Butler, wife of Robert Butler, Ambassador to Australia and Cuba under President Harry Truman. They all (including the mirror) "lived" harmoniously together, in both embassies!
